And you thought that Political Prisoners only happen in Third World Countries? Well, I have news for you! There is a young lady in Dallas Texas who is a Political Prisoner. Even though she was charged with a crime of theft of $1500.00 in wall art and a 1998 Ford Mercury Marquis, by Mr. Joseph Lockwood because she refused to marry him, an older gentleman with childish ways. JP court ruled it as a relationship gone bad. Mr. Lockwood had a very good friend(some say exlover), who was the President of the Dallas Bar to represent him. Ms. Rhonda Hunter filed civil charges against Ms. Mathis. Ms. Mathis, who has something close to a photographic memory, began to consume law books. Mary found that Ms. Hunter did not follow procedures when she got the civil judgement. Ms. Mathis proceeded by filing an appeal with the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. The Fifth Circuit, either didn't like pro se' litigants, or either they were friends with Ms. Hunter or just did no like Ms. Mathis. The Appeals court told Ms. Mathis that they would not look at any part of her appeal. Ms. Mathis then took her cause to the Texas Supreme Court. While the case was in the Texas Supreme Court, Ms. Hunter filed criminal charges against Ms. Mathis. The first charge of $1500.00 in wall art to which Mr. Lockwood had no receipts nor could he describe the art. Ms. Mathis was arrested and she posted bond. About a month later, Ms. Hunter filed charges for the 1998 Ford Mercury Marquis. This was the year 2001. Some how, some way, the estimated value of the 1998 Ford Mercury Marquis was $20,000 to $100,000. I do not know who came up with that estimate, but I sure would like to have them as my insurance adjuster. The real reason for the high estimate was to get a felony charge. Ms. Mathis was arrested again and posted bond.
Ms. Mathis reports to court and instruct Judge Manny Alvarez that she needed a court appointed attorney, since she had filed bankruptcy. Here steps in Attorney Kenneth Weatherspoon. Kenneth was instructed by Mary that she wanted a speedy trial by jury. Kenneth keeps the case for over a year and filed not one motion and neither did he contact any of her witnesses. Kenneth was fired and in come Rex Gunther, another Alvarez flunky. Rex kept the case for over a year and filed not one motion and neither did he contact any of her witnesses. Rex did however try and set up a trial by the court. The only thing was that Rex forgot to invite any of Mary's witnesses, even the the prosecutor had his present. Rex was fired.
Judge Manny, also known as Mad Manny, told Mary that when she come back to court, that she had better have an attorney or else.
Since Mary had filed bankruptcy, she came to court just to tell Judge Alvarez that she would represent herself. MAry was instructed by Judge Alvarez to sit and she did for the rest of the afternoon. After court was over, Judge Alvarez instructed the bailiff to arrest her. She pleaded with him since she had a 9 year old daughter at home. To no avail, Judge Manny had plans for the daughter.
Mary was incarcerated for over two and a half months, with no trial nor bond hearing. During the two and a half months, Dallas County dropped felony charges on Mary's ex husband, Darrell Bernard. Darrell had pleaded guilty and waived his rights and was given probation. Auto magically, Darrell was brought back, a new case was opened, but with the same judge that found him guilty and the felony was dismissed. Mad Manny was hard at work. Judge Manny and friends had sumised that if we take her daughter, she will plead guilty to the charges and Mr. Hunter will have another notch on her belt.
It didn't happen that way. The good news was that while Mary was in jail for the two and a half months while her constitutional rights were being violated, Mary was notified that she had won her Texas Supreme Court case. That pissed on the troops even more. Now the banded together like a pack of wolves with their eyes focused on their prey, Mary.
Judge Alvarez signed a recusal order, but still managed to hold her bond insufficient and to issue warrants for her arrest. I was under the impression that once a judge recuse himself from a case, he could no longer rule on that case. No where but Texas and even more specific DALLAS.
Now this case was not a murder nor an armed robbery, but a simple domestic dispute made complicated by the ego's involved. Judge Manny and friends were so obsessed with Mary, that they had her cell phones traced, had her social security stopped and even interferred with CPS investigation. Judge Manny and friends, Dan Hunt being one, dug so deep into her background, that they knew which slave ship her anscestors arrived on. Judge Manny and friends even made up evidence to charge Mary with.
Mary's mother became gravely ill and she went to Louisiana to attend to her. By this time Judge Manny Alvarez had lost his reelection bid. Mary types up a Writ and presents it to Judge Carter Thompson, the new judge. Judge Thompson, not having a brain of his own, called Manny Alvarez and of course, Manny instruct Judge Thompson to arrest her.
The bailiff, a lady sheriff and an old sheriff who should be praying to God to forgive him for all the dirt he has done, instead they ruff up Mary. One ogre tried to bend her finger back, another kicked her on the knee and all the while they were playing Don Imus. This is representative of who and what we have working in our courts. Not only did they physically abuse her, a watch and bracelet has yet to show up.
That was October 17, 2007. It is now November 23, 2007. Even though the warrants were illegally issued, she remains in jail. A mock bond hearing was set for Judge Lena Laverio's court after Mary had been in jail two and a half weeks. As far as I can tell, this was a staged, planned even, no academy awards here. After the bond hearing was on its was and Mary was on the witness stand, Judge Laverio stated that she could not do the bond hearing because she had represented Mr. Lockwood in a case against Ms. Mathis and she would have to recuse herself from the case. Mary was order rather rudely back to jail. After some investigation, Judge Levario did not represent Mr. Lockwood as she had stated, but Lena tried to come to the rescue of her friend Rhonda Hunter in the Texas Supreme Court case that Ms. Mathis had filed. Judge Levario had gotten her had slapped by the Texas Supreme Court. Anytime you receive a sanction because of someone, you do not forget that person, that is why I say that it did not take her that long to figure out who Mary Mathis was. It was a staged event. The case leaves her court and travels to Judge John Creuzot, who seemed disinterested and unfamiliar with the case, at least until the bond hearing started.
Manny Alvarez and all the haters were present and the DA asked if Manny could speak first since he had some where to go and Judge Creuzot agreed. Manny called Mary everything but a child of God. He rambled on for about fifteen minutes. Judge Creuzot did not interrupt his fifteen minute ramble and neither did Mary's attorney, which was odd to me. Manny admitted that it was his signature on the recusal letter and stated that it was a mistake. Mary takes the stand and was asked a question and as she was about to expound on the question, Judge Creuzot instruct her to speak when spoken to. I could see where this was headed, nowhere. Judge Creuzot probably had a Lena moment. Mary gets off the stand and Mary's attorney ask for a bail. The DA stands and states that if she was given a bond, there was a hold in Louisiana for interferring with the custody of a child and a P.O.Box in Odessa, Texas. I have no clue as to the significance of a P.O.Box in Odessa, Texas, but it must be pretty important. This was the 9th of November. Judge Creuzot instructed the DA to have his invvestigators check it out and get back in two weeks. Mary is in jail and Judge Creuzot is saying two weeks and information that could be obtained in no more that three days. It would seem that the hold in Lousiiana would be the determining factor in setting the bail. Information was obtained, not by the DA and not by Mary's attorney, which stated that there was no hold of any kind in Lafayette fro Mary. Judge Cruezot looked at the fax and said hmmm, what about the P.O.Box in Odessa. He again refused to set bond and allowed the DA two weeks again. Judge Creuzot also stated that he would take the responsibility, since he did no reassign the case to another judge. Judge Cruezot the reinstated the bond and held it insufficient, rather noble of the judge. Was he taking responsibility for the warrant that was issues and to which she was arrested. Since Manny had issued the warrants after his recusal, the warrants are illegal, so why is Mary in jail? Mary's mother has since passed and burried and Mary is a political prisoner in the United States of America and the not so great state of Texas. Cruel and unusual punishment, Judge Roy Beam would be just down right proud of them thar Dallas judges. I call on anyone with any sense of justice and who believe that justice has no friends I fear for her life because of the judges involved and I can see Judge Manny and friends trying to get their criminal friend to set her up. Mary has been investigated by Manny, the previous DA, and Dan Hunt. They have been unable to find anything significant. It is now time to make up something. Setup/railroad in 2007, Dallas, Texas style.
